Library Presentation

The “Moudjahid Ben Dekkir Mohamed Salah” Library of the Faculty of Letters and Foreign Languages is a university library specialized in Arabic language and literature and foreign languages (French and English). Its team works under the supervision of the library manager to facilitate access to information for users through lending, processing various types of reference materials, and making them available to users of different categories (students, teachers, and researchers) belonging to the University of Mila or other universities within the framework of cooperation between libraries and university institutions. Thus, it is considered one of the fundamental pillars of the faculty’s academic and research programs.
It opened its doors at the beginning of 2011 with a capacity estimated at 400 seats. It includes an internet room reserved for students, equipped with 49 computers, and a reading room reserved for teachers, equipped with 5 computers. The library has a documentary collection in the specialties of Arabic literature, English language, and French language.

Library Services
Administration
It is managed by the library manager who supervises all operations related to the library, whether administrative or technical, in coordination with the faculty management, such as:
– New acquisitions
– External relations
– Welcoming students and listening to their concerns.
Lending Section
It carries out the following tasks:
– Monitoring library registration for teachers and students.
– Monitoring internal and external lending for teachers and students.
– Issuance of clearance certificates for graduated students.
The following categories benefit from the lending service:
– Teachers
– Students of the Faculty of Letters and Languages.
– External students
The library includes two main services:
Orientation and Bibliographic Research Service
Among the missions and services of this department:
– Ensuring bibliographic research for researchers and training users in the use of library tools.
– Welcoming, orienting, and guiding students and teachers.
– Informing about the lending system, internal regulations.
– Bibliographic research: The service has a computerized catalog, allowing students and teachers to conduct bibliographic searches by indexes (authors, titles, subjects).
– Supervising trainees and students from the Faculty of Documentation and Libraries as part of practical internships.
Documentary Collection Management Service
This service coordinates between the agents responsible for processing at the storage level to determine the list of new acquisitions, process them, and then integrate them into the lending process. Its main features are:
– Ensuring all types of cataloging operations.
– Computerized entry of records.
– Annual inventory of books and reference works.
Digitization Section
This section was recently added to the library to keep up with scientific and technological developments and facilitate the research process for students and teachers. It collects books in PDF format and integrates them into the digital library application to facilitate searching and consulting digital references in the library’s internet room.

– Descriptive catalogs of dissertations and theses.
– Computerized search:
– This includes using the library’s computerized catalogs to search for information sources inside and outside the library. Users can perform computerized searches from inside or outside the library via the Internet, in Arabic and French, across all library collections.
Faculty Library Opening Hours
From Sunday to Thursday from: 08:00 to: 16:30, except on holidays and religious and national occasions.
On-duty service on Saturday from: 08:00 to 15:30 without interruption.
Borrowing Books from the Library
- Borrowing books or catalogs requires presenting the library card.
- Personal presence of the cardholder or their representative, except in exceptional cases.
- For students, teachers, or researchers from other universities, it is mandatory to present a student card or any other document (e.g., ID card or driver’s license) plus an authorization endorsed by the sending institution (letter of acceptance).
Loan Duration:
The loan duration varies according to user categories and must be respected:
- Teacher: 04 books for one month.
- Postgraduate students (Master’s, PhD): 04 books for one month.
- Undergraduate (Bachelor’s) + Master’s (Year 1 & 2) students: 03 books for 10 days.
Note: The student is allowed to renew the loan only once for a period of 5 days, except for documents in high demand or available in a small number of copies (they are not renewable).
Late Return of Books:
In case of delay in returning the borrowed item within the specified period, the holder is subject to a penalty of suspension from borrowing for a period equal to twice the delay duration. The penalty is doubled in case of recurrence.
